Triathlon Basics for Beginners

In a sprint, you swim a quarter to half a mile then bike for twelve to twenty miles, and lastly, run for about three to five miles. There could be other variations depending on the organizers.
Swim for one and a half kilometer, then bike for forty kilometers, and lastly, run for ten kilometers. This is also called the International distance.
Swim for 1.2 miles, bike for fifty-six miles and then run for 13.1 miles
You would need to swim for 2.4 miles, bike for a hundred twelve miles then run for 26.2 kilometers. A triathlon always starts with the swimming. Competitors swim in open waters most of the time. After completing the distance, the competitor would enter the transition area where he or she could change while finding the bike. One would need to complete the distance on the bike then enter another transition area where the bike should be racked and head to the start of the run. Transition time is the time between two sports.
FThe first transition is after the swim and before the bike. The second transition is after the bike and before the run. The time one spends in transitions is also included in the total time of the racer. So, as much as possible, a competitor would consider using the transition efficiently. A triathlete should know to choose the gears carefully as they could affect the performance. These days, there are wetsuits that can be used all throughout the race. There are rules that have to be followed during a race. The list below only includes the most important ones.
- No earphones during the race. This is for safety reasons.
- No littering of garbage or throwing of things to the spectators. You should have a bag where you could place all your things in the transition area.
- Race alone. This means that you can’t have your friends or family tag along with you during the competition.
- Don’t ride your bike in the transition area. There’s a designated line where you can start your bike after you’ve taken it off the rack. Similarly, there’s also a line where you should be unmounting your bike before you rack it.
- During the bike ride, keep left and overtake on the right.
- No drafting. That means that you can’t get too close to the biker in front of you. You need to keep a distance of 7 meters. When you get closer than 7 meters, you would be given fifteen seconds to overtake.
