Why Register?

Thank you for your interest in International Year of Astronomy 2009.

You may wonder what the purpose is of registration on the site — what are the advantages?

There are two motivations for registration.

The most important reason is related to the fact that registered site users — with appropriate permissions — can publish material to the site using a simple web-based interface. As more local activities get underway, we would like people to write brief articles about their activities so that we can all share this information about what is happening across Canada.

Another important feature that will be activated during autumn 2008, is the IYA Event database. Registered users will be able to submit an event for inclusion in the database. Events will appear in the database pending approval by one of the site editors. Visitors will be able to browse the database to find upcoming events in their area.

Users can submit material but it won't be published (i.e., it won't actually appear on the site) until one of our editors has approved it.

If you are interested in using this feature, please contact Andy Woodsworth indicating that you would like author privileges on the web site, and we will get back to you.

An additional benefit of registration is that we will be able to quickly alert you by email of significant developments or major events during IYA (i.e. during 2009).
