For the International Year of Astronomy, the RASC has developed a number of educational products, including a cardboard planisphere.  The English version is called the "Star Finder", the French "Cherche-étoiles".  It is based on an earlier National Research Council Canada design of a planisphere, but has a number of new features including being pre- cut, having the flaps pre-creased, and being in full colour.

Apply to host a Galileo Lecturer

During 2009, the International Year of Astronomy, ten of Canada's most active and articulate leading researchers will be available for high-impact public lectures on topics of forefront astronomy. Two goals for the Galileo Lecture Series are to introduce the excitement and reach of modern astronomy to non-traditional audiences and to provide a legacy for the host and the greater community.

Submit your images to the Canadian Image Database

The Canadian IYA Image Team wants your astronomy images! Send us your beautiful and/or striking images of astronomical phenomena, visualizations, instruments or people. Selected images will be put in the Canadian image database for the upcoming International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009) and will be used for IYA2009 promotional purposes and for exhibitions.  See initial collection on Flickr

Contest for Gemini Imaging Time for Canadian Students

We announce an exciting opportunity for Canadian High School and CEGEP students to obtain images at one of the world's forefront observatories: the 8-metre Gemini-North and Gemini-South telescopes. This competition is meant to encourage young people to participate in science activities and particularly to become interested in astronomy, in honour of the International Year of Astronomy 2009.
